Gift packages of lessons are available to be purchased starting at (4) four 30-minute sessions.
Online music lessons are a way for people to learn music over the internet, with their own in-person private music instructor, in the comfort of their own space. It works well for those who:
Prior to our first session together we can schedule a complementary mini session for you, at your request, so we can determine how best to set up your internet device and lesson space. That way we can focus on you and your instrument during your first session.
Here are some things to know:
Click on the lesson link for your session time within 5 minutes of your scheduled time. Be prepared with your instrument, and any other lesson supplies. When the student before you has finished, Dolly will let you into the online studio. It's that easy. For the lesson proper you will need:
Other needed print-outs and supportive materials will be available to you through the Student Resources tab on this site. Students will need to create an account password to access the materials on that page. Private students may create their account password on the Student Resources page. It's easy and convenient to take piano lessons in Charleston.
How do I get lesson books and materials? During your initial lesson Ms Paul will assess your abilities and let you know which books she recommends. You can order your books from an online source yourself, or you can purchase them through this studio and pay for shipping or courier service to your home. If you are local, you can arrange to pick up books and supplies from Dolly.
How does payment work? You will be invoiced for your lessons near the end of each month for the upcoming month through Square, by Low Country Studios, Ltd. Co. Payment is collected before lessons are given. You will be able to pay the invoice with a credit card before the first of each month, and now Square is also accepting bank drafts. If payment has not been received after the second lesson of the month, lessons will be discontinued until full payment is made.
If there are five lessons in a month you can choose to take a lesson week off without being charged for that 5th lesson. However, you need to let us know the week you want off prior to the start of the 5-week month. All other lesson times are charged, whether or not you can attend. You must remember that in addition to purchasing quality instruction, you are also buying a space of time. If you miss a lesson time you will not be refunded or credited for that time. There are no make-up lessons for conflicts or no-shows. If you forget to show up for two consecutive lesson times you may be removed from the schedule.
Do you prepare students for music school auditions? Many of Ms Paul's students have gone on to earn degrees in music with full scholarships to prestigious music schools. For students hoping to enter college to major in the field of Music, students should be enrolled with weekly lessons on their choice instrument by the beginning of their Freshman High School year. For local middle and secondary schools (i.e. Charleston's School of the Arts) Dolly will not accept new students for audition preparation after August 1st for the coming year audition.
Will this work for my child? Studying music is a struggle at first and requires support from parents. A tennis player will never improve if she only practices for 5 minutes one day a week outside of her tennis lesson. The same is true for music. The more time you put into music practice, the faster you will see personal improvement. The parent should be present while children are having their online lesson and help the child select a regular time to practice every day. Twenty minutes a day is a good start with a goal of 45 minutes per day as the student moves forward. The 45 minute session can be broken into two sessions. Suggested practice times include one session after breakfast and one later in the day, usually following an after school snack, or supper. Children need parental support in practicing skills and completing school work through 11 years of age. If you don't have time in your schedule to monitor your child as they do their daily skill building with their instrument, this may not prove fruitful for your child.
Are you still available for in-person lessons if I live in, or am visiting, the Charleston SC area? Since moving to online lessons the studio has grown to include students who live outside of the Charleston SC area and across the U.S. All lessons are conducted virtually.
Do you have a lightly used method book you no longer need? An old guitar you can donate or a keyboard you have outgrown? Contact me to arrange for a pick-up.
When family budgets get small, music is often the first to be forgotten. Reach out if you need lesson or music material support. Or donate to help another if you can.
